Cate The Fort Worth Citizen

Fort Worth Citizen
Kate arrived that fateful day in October 2013 on Amtrak to Downtown Fort Worth. Originally, from Los Angeles, California she fell in love with the city and does her best to make a contribution to the community that she lives in.

Why does Cate want to become a first responder?

First Responder
Kate was born to be a First Responder. Dad decided to leave before she was born but Military Veterans and Police Officers picked up where he left off. Kate's mom worked in a restaurant that was frequented by Police Officers and Firefighters. The men and women of these two fraternities became family.

Kate knew she wanted to work in EMS on a Summer trip to the local Glendale California Fire Station. She was chosen out of the kids to put on the gear and respond to the tones that alerted Firefighters that people needed help.
Kate now trains daily to become part of Fort Worth Emergency Medical System and City Emergency Response team. Her goal is to someday retire knowing that she has learned from the ones that have gone before her and have taught those that wanted to learn from her experience. If she dies doing what she loves  She wants her friends and family not to cry but to celebrate her life and take care of each other.

Diabetic
Kate found out that she was Diabetic in 2014 when she was 550 lbs. While at work her face had blown up due to a tooth infection. She spent her 43 Birthday in ICU. She made a pact with herself and her EMT supporter to lose the weight.

Help me Jesus he won't keep his word

Our family has been frustrated lately. A relationship is not working out well. No one
likes to be used or walked over. It just seems like our room-mate.
As a Christian, I opened my home to someone that I thought was dedicated and hard working.
He agreed that he would help out with remodeling the house in exchange for a roof over his head,
food, and free laundry. It doesn’t seem like the man wants to keep his part of the agreement.

Our family has giving him clothing, food, and all the extras of living in a house.
We have literally treated him like family. He has called us family. Yet we do not
feel like family. He stays in his room and plays video games. In the three months that he
has been here he has only offered to pay one bill.

I don’t write this to complain. I know that my God is great and will provide the things that
our family needs. I really want to use this message to teach the world a universal message.
That message is that actions speak louder than words. God word says

” It is a trap to dedicate something rashly and only later to consider one’s vows.”

This man said that he was going to work yet he has caused us to go into a slight amount of poverty. Have you said you were going to say something and didn’t do it. How do you think it affected your relationship with the person you said it to? Do you think they are going to trust your word again?

Saying something and not doing it just puts a wedge in a relationship. If a person does it enough times then it may crack open the relationship completely. So remember that in a relationship sometimes actions speak louder than words and be sure to keep your word.

Did GreenWorks Hedger Do The Job?

Our family has a lot of home remodeling to do. The house renovations include a front yards and a jungle of a back yard. As you can see from the picture, I call it a jungle for a reason. The weeds have to be about knee high.

The only tool that we have to conquer the beast of a backyard with is a GreenWorks lawn and garden hedger that we purchased on Amazon.com. We knew that it was going to stand up to the lawn and smaller weeds. We just were not sure that it would hold up to weeds that looked like they were growing into trees.

What do we think of the GreenWorks hedger once we pulled the equipment out of the box? Our family loved the fact that the machine is so light weight. My husband loved the fact that it came with a second spool of cord. The hedger was easy to assemble but we did have to wait for the electrical cord to get here which was purchased separately.  So if the makers of the GreenWorks Hedger added an electrical cord to the box it might be purchased more by others.

Did it conquer the jungle in our backyard? Was our family able to get fine lines and cut through small tough areas? Or did the Green Machine give out during our test? Well we believe that when it comes to home remodeling pictures are worth a thousand words.

Sadly I can't find the finished picture but the weeds and trees were demolished. I look forward to remodeling the back yard to something that I enjoy sitting in during the cool fall and spring months. During the home remodeling and gardening challenge,
I plan on planting a lot of new things.

Something About Dixie In Fort Worth Texas

A while ago my husband and I were looking for an American restaurant near me. I had a long night shift at work and we were ready to order some food. Dixie was the only place on the bus route that we knew was open this early in the morning. We chose to go to that restaurant. So why did we walk out.

Customer service and rapport is important in the restaurant business. My husband and I should know we have both been in the industry for about twenty years. Sometimes too much customer service can be a problem. When a person is unable to read the menu or start a conversation without being interrupted then staff becomes a problem.

Perhaps that is the way Dixie is run as a business. Maybe the servers per table is because it was Sunday. Maybe we were not the right clients for that type of restaurant. The fact that when a client sits down at a restaurant they should not feel hurried to order. They should be able to take a sip of their coffee and quietly look at the menu. When asked to be left alone for a minute they should not be told “We help every staff member out”

After being interrupted five times in ten minutes, my husband got up and walked out the door. My husband overheard the management say “What happened to them?” when he was told what happened his response was “Oh well there will be others.”

Thank you Dixie for your response of not caring for your restaurant customers. We will gladly spend our money elsewhere. We’re glad we did because we found Kolachi’s just down the street. Of course this is not a restaraunt review for all of the Dixie house cafes. I personally look forward to doing restaurant reviews for all of the Dixie House Cafes.

Five Unique Safety Tools For Your Family

www.cafepress.com/healthyfirstresponder
Being caught in a fire can be scary and dangerous. many know about the classic fie safety tip;s like alarms, escape routes, and meeting places. Many forget the small tools that will help them during the time of a home fire.

Towels and sheets
Keep a towel for each door in the room in case of a fire. If you are unable to leave the room then roll the towel up and stick it under the door frame to keep smoke out of the room. The sheet is used to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.

2 Water bottles with water
use the water bottle to wet the towel that you are going to put in the door frame. Use the other water bottle for a sheet just in case you need to protect yourself from the heat. Of course the first safety tip is to get out of the building the safest way that you can. This is a tool if you get trapped in a fire.

Hard Object
Sometimes people move into a house where the landlord has nailed, glued, or painted the windows shut. If you are unable to fix the problem without replacing the windows then make sure that you have something sturdy nearby. Keep a crow bar, baseball bat, or heavy object in the room. You may have to break a window out to get out safely.

Flashlight
It's difficult to see through smoke when you're trying to escape. A flashlight is also needed for fire safety till you reach your meeting destination. Personally, I think the flashlights that police officers use are the best because of the strength and direction of the light. Though they cost around $50 the flashlight is worth the money. When used the beam of the flashlight reaches 25 feet or more.

Construction masks
Construction masks are paper masks people use to filter out debris in the air while on a job site. The masks will help stop some of the smoke and embers from getting into your lungs also.

Back Packs
Backpacks for each family member is needed. Adult packs should include extra clothing, medications, duplicate bank cards, copies of keys, food and water. Children's bags should also include something to keep them entertained. Children do well after emergencies if their mind is occupied.

Ultimately, the most important tool in fire safety is your emotions. It's important to stay calm. Listen to the Firefighters and focus on what the EMT/Paramedic is trying to tell you to do if you are injured. They are there to help you not hurt you

5 Important Summer Safety Tips For Beach Fun

It's Summer! For many that means BBQ's, road trips, and going to the beach. It's important to be safe while still having fun. The following are safety tips for your time at the beach. The important thing is to have fun but do it safely.

Stranger Danger
In light of recent news, sadly we are finding out that the beach is hunting grounds for rapist and pedophiles. There are hundreds of people on the beach and it's difficult to keep an eye on everyone. Teach your children to be police but say no to a stranger if they're offered anything. Also teach them that if they can't find their parents then to head to a Life Guard tower.

Keep your eyes open
A wave or tide can easily drag someone away from eye sight. It only takes a second for someone to get lost. If family members get lost have them contact the Life Guards on the beach or someone in a uniform. Make sure your family has a way to spot each other. Umbrellas work really well or having a family member wear a water proof wrist band in a bright color.

Listen to the Life Guards
Life Guards track wave height, under currents, shark sightings, jelly fish populations on the beach and more. They know their beach like the back of their hand. If a Life Guard asks you to do something, just do it.

Try Diver boots
Sadly glass, needles and debris are being found more often in our oceans and on our beaches. Diver boots are water proof and sometimes sand proof. They'll keep your feet safe from debri and the possibility of stepping on a jelly fish.

Water Emergencies
Did you swallow water and now you can't stop coughing? If this happens, then go see the Life Guard. There is actually a medical condition that happens when you get ocean water in the lungs.

The important thing is to have fun but make sure that you have your own summer safety tips in place.
